Career & TECHNICAL EDU
The goal of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at BCHS is to prepare students for future careers and/or secondary education. CTE programs help students develop skills and knowledge that are relevant to real-world jobs and the emerging economy of Barren County and the surrounding areas. Though intentionally built systems and structures, students will have opportunity to exit BCHS with Industry Certifications and End of Program Assessment credentials as well as dual-credit through our partnering institutions.
Career Pathways @ BCHS
Barren County High School offers the following career pathways on campus as a part of our CTE programming. In addition to these, the Barren County Area Technology Center, also located on our campus, offers the following pathways: architecture, mechanical designer, management and entrepreneurship, automotive, carpentry, diesel, electricity, HVAC, industrial maintenance (new), machine tool, plumbing, welding, allied health, pre-nursing, phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, and web development administration. For addition on information on any of our pathways, find detailed descriptions on the BCHS Guidance Career Pathway page or this document.

Instruction includes fundamental business procedures, human resource management, time management software, workstation management, travel planning, financial reporting, payroll, mail procedures, effective communication, and ethical decision-making skills.
Agriculture Power, Systems, & Structures

The Agricultural Power, Structural, Technical Systems pathway is built on the application of concepts and technology in engineering, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, power, structures, and controls to the field of agriculture. Students design agricultural structures, machinery, and equipment while utilizing safe operation and maintenance practices. Includes hands-on learning in the Ag Mechanics Shop/Laboratory.
Agribusiness

Agribusiness systems contribute to the production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing and development of agricultural commodities and resources. This includes food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture and other plant and animal products and services. Agribusiness is a high-tech industry that uses satellite systems, computer databases and spreadsheets, biotechnology and many other innovations to increase efficiency and profitability.
Animal Science

This pathway focuses on the scientific principles underlying the breeding, care, and management of agricultural animals and the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural animal products. This includes developing better, more efficient ways of producing and processing meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products, as well as studying genetics, nutrition, reproduction, growth and development of animals. Includes hands-on learning in the livestock barn/meat processing facilities.
Automation Engineering

This four-course PLTW and VEX Robotics focused pathway allows students to explore the various roles and diciplines of engineering as they progress through various modules. these courses will be covering engineering topics spanning from simple mechanisms, to robotics integration, automation, and computer integrated manufacturing processes.
Biomedical

The rigorous and relevant four-course PLTW Biomedical Science sequence allows students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future. Each course in the Biomedical Science sequence builds on the skills and knowledge students gain in the preceding courses.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming courses are designed to introduce students to coding and software development. This pathway typically starts with foundational courses in programming basics, covering logic, algorithms, and the Python language. As students progress, they explore more advanced topics in AP Computer Science Programming, AP Computer Science A, web development, data security, and mobile app development. Project-based learning allows students to apply their skills in real-world scenarios, and the pathway includes opportunities for certifications and dual enrollment college credit, preparing students for further education and/or careers in tech.
Culinary Arts

This four-course PLTW and VEX Robotics focused pathway allows students to explore the various roles and diciplines of engineering as they progress through various modules. these courses will be covering engineering topics spanning from simple mechanisms, to robotics integration, automation, and computer integrated manufacturing processes.
